Football. It will be here soon. Very soon. We're starting to get excited to have some pigskin news to talk about once again.

Players are hopping on planes, or getting in their Teslas, and heading back to Philadelphia. Camp begins this weekend.

One guy who is stoked for year two under Chip Kelly to get under way is linebacker Connor Barwin. The fan favorite had a busy summer, both on the charity front and in the gym as you can see from his Instagram below. He called in to Angelo Cataldi and the morning team this morning. He talked about his offseason and how excited he is to get back out there on the field, likening it to the first day of school. From CBS:

“I know we’ll improve, that’s for sure,” Barwin told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Thursday. “I think we’re so much farther along then we were last year, you know, mentally. I think—we were still in training camp trying to teach guys and really through the first half of the season, the coaches were teaching guys what their jobs were. I mean literally like what you’re supposed to do in this coverage or in this defense. This year, we go into training camp teaching guys—at least the starters—not what their jobs are, but different technique and how they can execute them more efficiently and better. Which, I think, you can advance your defense that way.”

Which is a very interesting point. Last year wasn't the first year for only new players like Barwin but rather a whole new experience for the entire team, including everyone from Chip Kelly on down to the guy making the smoothies. There was obviously much more of a learning curve for everyone last season. It should be exciting to see how they hit the ground running this year with so many familiar faces around doing it all for the second time.

Their schedule may be tougher and they won't be catching any opponents off guard in 2014, but their preparation and routine should be much more systematic. There's value in that.

Barwin also says he's the best basketball player out of himself, Shady McCoy, and DeSean Jackson. Big size advantage there, like Joel Embiid vs. Pierre Jackson.

Camp soon, people. Camp soon.
