Asante still sounding disgruntled

Is Asante Samuel still unsure of his place in the Eagles defense?

Sure sounds like it.

Back in training camp, Samuel questioned his role in the revamped Eagles secondary after the Eagles acquired Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, two other Pro Bowl cornerbacks.

If theyre tired of my big-playmaking ability, maybe theyll ship me out, Samuel said back at Lehigh. Maybe theyll keep me. I dont know. Who knows.

Samuel hasnt said much about the Eagles unusual three-cornerback alignment since, and his playing time hasnt really seemed to take a hit, despite the addition of Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie.

But in a conference call Wednesday with writers covering the Giants, Samuel showed that hes still frustrated.

After answering a question about Steve Smith, the former Giant who defected to the Eagles, Samuel was asked if he could ever see himself leaving the Eagles and joining a rival NFC East team.

His response: The way things are going this year, I guess I probably could.

Samuel recorded his 50th career interception on Sunday in the Eagles loss to the Falcons in Atlanta. Hes making 5.9 million this year and due to make 8.4 million and 10.4 million in 2012 and 2013, the final years of his contract.
