Avant: Eagles don't want bandwagon fans

If you abandoned the Eagles when they were 1-4, they dont want you back.

If you gave up on the Eagles when they lost four straight games, and stowed all your Eagles gear in mothballs, dont go running now to unpack that Mike Mamula No. 59 jersey.

Thats the message from Eagles receiver Jason Avant, who said the Eagles arent interested in bandwagon fans.

We look at home games like road games, Avant said Sunday night, after the Eagles won their second straight game, 34-7 over the Cowboys at the Linc. We like to get booed by our fans.

Avant is on pace for a career-high 941 yards for the Eagles, who have elbowed their way back into the NFC playoff hunt after losing four straight games and blowing fourth-quarter leads in three of them.

We realize its going to be just these guys in the locker room, thats the way we take it, he said. We dont want people jumping on our bandwagon now. We want people to go out and still talk bad about us.

Sounds a little bit like Jimmy Rollins, who in 2008 said this about Phillies fans: You know, they're front-runners. When you're doing good, they're on your side. When you're doing bad, they're completely against you."

Avant said the Eagles need to maintain the same sense of desperation now at 3-4 that they had at 1-4.

Adversity is good, and you see what people are made of, he said. It doesnt make people, but it reveals whats inside of people.
