Avant calls Eagles together for meeting

For the Eagles, its reached that point. They have the talent to be 5-0 but are 1-4. They began the season as Super Bowl contenders but now are barely considered playoff contenders.

So they did what all desperate teams do. On Wednesday they had a players-only meeting, called by six-year veteran receiver Jason Avant, who after practice wouldn't discuss it with reporters.

"That stays in-house," he said.

But linebacker Jamar Chaney talked about it. A little bit.

Everybody was calm. You dont want to get heated right now. Its no time to panic, Chaney said. Were not panicking in this locker room. We know what were capable of doing.

Chaney downplayed the significance of the meeting.

We have team meetingsthat wasnt the first one. That was the first one as the whole team, Chaney said. Its just a sense of urgencynot that we havent been doing itbut to make sure the sense of urgency is there. At practice today, tomorrow, and throughout the week. And doing extra stuff too at the same time. Making sure were prepared this week for a big game against Washington.

Chaney said Avant did most of the talking.

A lot of players on our teamlike Michael Vick and all the guys, they say a lot of stuff. The sense of urgency is there, Chaney said. It was there after the Bills game. It wasnt like the team meeting was the first step in all that. Everyone understands what we have to do.

Which is play up to their potential.

We had a couple bad gamesfour bad gamesbut I mean, at the end of the day, we dont think one of those four teams is better than us, Chaney said. They won the game, but we dont think theyre better than us. We just have to go out there and do a better job of playing the whole game. On offense and defense. When its all said and done, we dont think any team can beat us, but weve been doing a good job of beating ourselves.
