Babin blasts NFL after being fined for hit

Its not the money that bothers Jason Babin. Its the concept of getting fined for playing football the way he was taught that gets under his skin.

I got fined for playing football, Babin said after practice Thursday.

Babin, the NFLs sack leader, said he was fined 15,000 for a hit on 49ers quarterback Alex Smith during the Eagles 24-23 loss Sunday. Babin is playing in the first year of a five-year, 28.325 million contract.

Its ridiculous, he said. They just arbitrarily go around fining guys for whatever they want. Id love to look at the hits from 10 years ago that guys are being fined for now. They were probably getting bonuses back then, not getting fined.

Babin has seven sacks in four games, the best start in franchise history by any pass rusher.

I dont think they like the way I play at all, Babin said. They get nervous. But thats what got me paid. Thats what got me where I am today. Thats not going to change.

Babin said hes already appealed the fine but doesnt expect to win.

He said the fine system is arbitrary because the amount of finesand whether a player is even fined at alldoesnt fit the plays guys are getting fined for.

Ill call that one 15 (thousand), well, Ill call that 40, he said. Theres no blueprint. Theres no system that says, This is how it works. Its a judgment call. I dont know what theyre basing it on.

Babin said the letter he received from the NFL said he was fined for a hit on Smith in the neck area.

Earlier Thursday, Babin lashed out at the NFL on Twitter.
