Dear Eagles: Stop woulda, coulda, shoulda

Share

When the NFL playoffs began, we saw players like LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin tweeting about how they were better than some of the teams that got in the playoffs.

Then on Tuesday, Trent Cole told Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News that the Eagles were inches away from being great and that some teams are going to be worried about playing the Birds in 2012.

I appreciate the players' positive outlook on next season, but do us all a favor and STOP IT!

Stop telling us what could have been. Stop telling us you were better than your record indicated. Stop telling us if you had gotten in the postseason you could have done some damage. Because the bottom line is you didnt make it. You stumbled your way through a season in which you lost to opponents you should have handled. You coughed up leads in the fourth quarter. You were consistently inconsistent. You came up small in big situations.

Do I need to go on?

The only accurate statement during the Eagles off-season came from team owner Jeffrey Lurie.

In reality, and its the way the NFL schedule was, we werent playing Green Bay, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and some of the best teams in the league," Lurie said. "We proved we could dominate the last four games of the year against teams that werent competitive.

I dont want to know what could have been, I can only deal in the what is. So stop it! Let the past rest in peace. We wait to find out if you will rise from the ashes of futility to redeem yourselves in 2012.
