The Eagles Wednesday morning finalized their second contract extension in two days with a member of the 2005 draft class, inking two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Trent Cole to a four-year extension that runs through 2017.
On Tuesday, the Eagles signed 2005 fourth-round pick Todd Herremans to a three-year extension that runs through 2016. Cole was taken one round later than Herremans.
Terms of the Cole deal were not immediately available.
Cole, like Herremans, had signed a seven-year contract extension through 2013 on March 15, 2007.
Cole will meet with the media on Wednesday afternoon.
Cole ranks third in Eagles history with 68 sacks, trailing only the peerless Reggie White (124) and Clyde Simmons (76). Since he entered the NFL in 2005, Cole has had four double-digit sack seasons. Only Jared Allen, DeMarcus Ware and Julius Peppers have had more, Allen and Ware with six and Peppers with five. Only Allen, Cole and Ware have reached double figures in each of the last three seasons.
Coles 68 career sacks are sixth-most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2005, behind only Ware (99.5), Allen (96), Peppers (70), Robert Mathis (69.5) and John Abraham (69).

Cole went to the Pro Bowl after the 2007 and 2009 seasons. Despite struggling with a serious calf injury last year, he recorded 11 12 sacks in 14 games.
In Cole and Jason Babin, the Eagles this past year had their first defensive end tandem with double-digit sack numbers since White and Simmons in 1992.
With 98 career starts in an Eagles uniform, Cole is second among current Eagles, one start behind defensive tackle Mike Patterson. Herremans is third with 92. The only others over 50 are Jamaal Jackson (72), DeSean Jackson (59) and Brent Celek (57).

Hes one of the premier defensive ends in the league. We have always said that when you watch the tape of him, its hard to tell the difference between his first play and his last play.
He has an unbelievable motor that does not stop. And as good as he is rushing the passer, he is equally as good against the run. His energy is contagious on the field.
