Kafka to start out as Eagles' No. 2 QB

A team source said Mike Kafka and not newcomer Trent Edwards will at least begin the off-season as Michael Vicks backup.

Kafka, a fourth-round pick in 2010, got into a couple games early last year while Vince Young was still out with his preseason hamstring injury and Vick had to leave the game early. He was 11-for-16 for 107 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

In a loss in Atlanta, he got the Eagles into position for a late comeback win with a 43-yard completion to Jeremy Maclin down to the Atlanta 39-yard-line, but on fourth down from the 22, Maclin dropped Kafkas first-down pass at the Falcons 16-yard-line.

Edwards is 14-19 in 33 NFL starts. He was out of football last year after the Raiders released him following training camp. In his best season, he went 7-7 with the Bills in 2008, completing 66 percent of his passes with 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
