Roseman: Eagles would like Mathis back

One of the biggest question marks coming into the 2011 Eagles season was the offensive line.

But by the end of the season, the line actually became a strength of the 8-8 team and current free agent Evan Mathis certainly played a role.

After Todd Herremans moved the right tackle, the Eagles plugged in Mathis, who started 15 games at left guard.

"Wed like Evan back and were in constant communication with his representatives," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said.

Now an unrestricted free agent, Mathis has reportedly garnered interest from the Colts and Redskins and was in Baltimore on Wednesday talking to the Ravens. The Ravens lost free agent guard Ben Grubbs, who signed a five-year deal with the Saints on Thursday. That means the Ravens need Mathis even more.

"Thats the danger of free agency," Roseman said. "Free agency its a big-boy sport right there. You have that risk when players get to free agency that youre going to lose them. Youre aware of that. We hope Evan Mathis remains a Philadelphia Eagle but obviously when youre on the open market, things happen."

Mathis, 30, bounced from Carolina to Miami to Cincinnati and played on a one-year deal worth 685,000 last season with the Eagles.
