Marty Mornhinweg, who has led the Eagles to their six best offensive seasons in franchise history in his six years as offensive coordinator, will interview for the Raiders head coaching vacancy, a league source said Wednesday.
Mornhinweg had one two-year stint as an NFL head coach with the Lions, where he went 5-27 in 2001 and 2002. He joined the Eagles in 2003 as a senior assistant and served as assistant head coach in 2004 and 2005 before taking over as offensive coordinator in 2006, when Brad Childress became head coach of the Vikings.
In his six years as offensive coordinator, the Eagles have ranked No. 2, No. 6, No. 9, No. 11, No. 2 and No. 4 in the league in offense. This years team netted 6,386 yards -- 20th-most in NFL history and second-most ever by a non-playoff team.
Mornhinweg, who turns 50 in March, has spoken frequently about his desire to return to head coaching.
New Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie fired Hue Jackson last week after just one year. McKenzie served under Ron Wolf in the Packers front office in the mid-1990s while Mornhinweg was on Mike Holmgrens coaching staff in Green Bay.
The Raiders are also scheduled to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, Jr.
Mornhinwegs stint in Detroit is remembered most for his unusual decision to kickoff in an overtime game against the Bears in Champaign, Ill., instead of receiving the ball. Mornhinweg felt the high winds in Champaign combined with the inexperience of his quarterback, Joey Harrington, gave the Lions a better chance of winning. The Bears drove down for a game-winning field goal, cementing Mornhinwegs legacy in Detroit.

But in Philly, hes led the Eagles to top-10 rankings in offense in five of six years (and No. 11 in the other year). Under Mornhinweg, since 2006, the Eagles rank third in the NFL in yards, fifth in the NFL in points scored, sixth in passing yards and 10th in rushing yards.
Mornhinweg has strong ties to the Bay Area. He was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of the 49ers under Steve Mariucci from 1997 through 2000.
