Vick's new record spoiled by loss to Bills

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- On the same field where Randall Cunningham turned in one of his greatest plays, Michael Vick broke one of Cunninghams most hallowed records.

And on Sunday, just like the day Cunningham turned in his historic 95-yard touchdown pass to Fred Barnett 21 years ago, the Eagles lost to the Bills.

Vick rushed for 90 yards, breaking Cunninghams NFL record for career rushing yards during the Eagles 31-24 loss to the Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
In 1990, Cunningham was nearly sacked in the back of the end zone by Hall of Famer Bruce Smith but somehow escaped Smith and flung the ball down to the Bills 45, where Barnett raised up over cornerback James Williams and caught it, then raced the rest of the way for the second-longest pass play in Eagles history.

Vick entered the game with 4,858 career rushing yards and needed 71 to break Cunninghams mark of 4,928. Fittingly, he broke the mark with the second-longest run of his career, a 53-yarder in the third quarter.

Its great, Vick said. You work hard, you play this game to try to be the best at what you do, and I continue to do that. I continue to play this game with 110 percent effort each and every Sunday. I give it everything I got. I feel like not only myself, but every guy in that locker room is blessed to be in the position that theyre in.

We play this game to be pioneers for the ones who come behind us. Im going to keep doing that, keep fighting with my team and somehow try to find a way to turn it all around.

The record was spoiled by an otherwise miserable day for Vick (see story), who threw for 315 yards with two touchdowns but also had a career-high four interceptions, three of them in the first half. One was returned for a touchdown by Bills linebacker Nick Barnett.

The Eagles are now 1-4 this year and 1-6 in Vicks last seven starts. They were 8-2 in his first 10 starts in an Eagles uniform.

Vick has 10 turnovers in five games this year. In his first 10 games as an Eagle, he had five turnovers. In his last seven, he has 14.

Vick already has more interceptions this year (seven) than all of last year (six).

As a quarterback, an interception is an interception, Vick said. Regardless of how you look at it, the world is going to judge you as throwing an interception. Some of them are tipped and some of them are straight shots, where guys just pick them off. You just cant have them in this game.
