Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo has been suspended two games for a charging call during Sundays 4-3 loss in Detroit, the team announced.
Until now, the fierce Italian fireplug has never been suspended.
The decision was handed down this evening after Rinaldo had a conference call with the NHL's Lord of Discipline, Brendan Shanahan.
Rinaldos charging hit occurred at 13:32 of the opening period when he clocked Detroits Jonathan Ericsson behind the net.
Were if not the for the distance he took to hit Ericsson, it would have been a clean, legal hit. Rinaldo was given a two-minute minor.
Rinaldo is second in the NHL this season with 156 penalty minutes. Ottawas Zenon Konopka is first (168).
