Hartnell on ASG snub: ‘A little disappointing'

UNIONDALE, N.Y.Perhaps someone ought to call the copsScott Hartnell isnt an all-star.

Thursday afternoon, Claude Giroux and Kimmo Timonen were named to this years all-star team, and Matt Read and Sean Couturier learned they will travel to Ottawa to represent the rookie class.

Hartnell, whos tied for the Flyers lead with 18 goals and leads in plusminus at plus-19, was overlooked.

Earlier this week, Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said it would be criminal if Hartnell were to be left off the all-star roster. Hartnell was certainly let down to learn he wasnt included.

Yeah, it was a little disappointing, not going to lie, Hartnell said. Ive had a good season thus far, our teams had a great season thus far, were right at the top of the Eastern Conference. I thought thered be an outside chance. But it wasnt meant to be. I cant be
worried about it.

Of course, Hartnells chances of an all-star appearance arent 100 percent finished. Remember back to last yearDanny Briere, originally snubbed despite an impressive first half of the season, was later called to play after other players declined invitations.

If Hartnell were to receive such a call, he wouldnt even have to think about how to answer.

Of course I would go, he said. To play with the best players in the league at an All-Star game, its obviously a great accomplishment. Id be there in a heartbeat. Like I said, it was probably a little disappointing, but if I get on a second or third list or whatever, Id still be there.

His coach hopes the opportunity arises.

In regards to Hartnell, you dont hope for injury, Laviolette said.but if there were a spot to open for whatever reason, youd certainly like to think that Scott would get the nod.
