When Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren opted to place Andreas Nodl on waivers yesterday, he said the move came to test the watersto see what kind of interest the rest of the league might have in the 24-year-old right wing.

Turns out, there was interest. The Carolina Hurricanes claimed him off waivers today.

"Thats the risk you take," Holmgren said. "He has another opportunity to work his way into the lineup there. He was having a tough time here, for whatever reason. He was good for us for a couple years, we wish him well."

With Nodl gone, the Flyers clear an additional 845,000 in cap space. Itll definitely come in handy going forwardthe Flyers have been thwarted by injuries lately. Chris Pronger, James van Riemsdyk, Andreas Lilja and Jaromir Jagr are all currently sidelined. Pronger and Lilja will likely be placed on long-term injured reserve today.

Nodl played in just 12 games for the Flyers this season, registering only one assist. With the Hurricanes, he'll likely be given more of a chance to play.

Change is difficult," coach Peter Laviolette said. "I spoke to Andreas and its going to be a new start for him, a different opportunity that maybe is a positive thing for him. Sometimes when things happen they dont seem positive, but hes been a good hockey player for us here and hes a good kid. Theres been a lot of youth added to this organization coming up from underneath and its tough for roster spots, but I thank him for everything. Hes a good kid."

In 127 career games with the Flyers over parts of four seasons, Nodl has 12 goals and 17 assists.
