Injury update: JVR still won't talk concussion

Share

Another day, another Flyers practice, another afternoon James van Riemsdyk declined to speak to the media about how hes feeling.

Van Riemsdyk, currently on injured reserve, hasnt played since Jan. 12 because of a concussion he sustained after being bumped around in early January. Hes back at practicean encouraging signbut theres not much else known about his status.

The most he has communicated about his condition? Mumbling the same when pressed for any updates by reporters.

Hes clearly frustratedand his teammates cant help but take notice and sympathize.

I think anytime anybodys injured, its a frustrating process, Braydon Coburn said. You want to be out there, and the hardest part is sitting out watching your teammates play games. All you can do is do your treatment, your rehab, and try to work your way back into the lineup.

His teammate Danny Briere can relateBriere, too, is working his way back from a concussion, sustained Jan. 21 at New Jersey.

Briere, however, had another encouraging day on the ice Friday. He participated in the Flyers full practice, and stayed out late for some minor contact drills.

He wont return for tomorrows game against New Jersey, and is most likely out for Sunday in New York against the Rangers, but its looking more and more like Brieres return is soon on the horizon.

You start looking at the games, he said. Especially with today. I think if tomorrow, I feel as good as today then were definitely not too far away. You start looking at the calendarwe play so many games, its not too, too hard to find a game somewhere. But I dont want to throw anything out there just yet, I want to feel tomorrow after going through a little bit of contact out there.
