Jagr ‘surprised' D wasn't back on decisive goal

OTTAWA -- He has some of the strongest wrists in hockey. Its a major reason why, defensively, Jaromir Jagr can almost never be stripped of a puck.

On Sunday at Scotiabank Place, Sens defenseman Erik Karlsson stole puck off Jagr and scored a decisive tying goal that sucked the life out of the Flyers during an eventual 6-4 loss (see story).

I dont really know what happened there, Jagr said. I go the puck at my feet. He poked checked and all of a sudden, its three-on-one.

I dont know where our defense went and what happened. I was surprised it was three-on-one, especially when we had a one-goal lead. He just poke checked it.

Jagrs unit with Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell were held scoreless in both games by Jason Spezzas line with Milan Michalek and Colin Greeing.

MacLean upset
Senators coach Paul MacLean wasnt upset at Sundays game, but what happened Saturday in Philly during the Flyers 3-2 overtime win.

MacLean felt Danny Briere should have been given a game misconduct for spearing Kyle Turris. Briere and Turris went to the box, fought later, and then Briere won the game with his hat trick in OT.

He probably shouldnt have been in the game since he speared a guy, MacLean told the Ottawa Sun. He ends up getting three goals and they call it a hooking penalty. I thought he speared the player.

His reaction to what Kyle Turris did was a little bit surprising since what he did was way worse than what Kyle Turris did but they settled it like men on the ice which is great.

500th
Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros celebrated his 500th NHL game against the Senators, a club he once played for.

Loose pucks
Though Ilya Bryzgalov says he has not been told by anyone to limit his conversations with the media, he has been noticeably withdrawn in his comments since the day before the Winter Classic, when he announced he was no starting the Winter Classic, even though the club didnt want that coming out. Since then, he is limited to 2-3 minutes with the media. He is the only Flyer with a daily clock on him and this is by order of managementThis was just the second time in 22 occasions this season the Flyers have lost in regulation when leading after two periods (19-2-1) and the first time in 17 games theyve lost in regulation when they led after one period (15-1-1) ... Marc-Andre Bourdon had a team-high six blocked shots.
