For Rangers fansand even some Flyers fansit was disappointing when the NHL revealed the rosters for the Winter Classic alumni game, and Mark Messiers name was noticeably absent.
Well, just like the Flyers did earlier this week, the Rangers had an addition to the roster to announce todayand those hoping for a last-minute Messier addition were in luck.
Originally, Messier had said he would be unable to participate in the game because of a looming shoulder surgery. As it turns out, Messier didnt yet undergo the surgery so hell be able to participate after all.
Messier had two stints with the Rangers, but was a noted powerhouse during his first six seasons in blue. In 1,756 games in his career, he has 694 goals and 1,193 assists.
As for the Dec. 31 alumni game, his presence definitely adds a layer of intrigue for Flyers fans: Messier and Eric Lindros sharing the same sheet of ice? Sounds good to us.
