Van Riemsdyk out 1-2 weeks with injury

Flyers left wing James van Riemsdyk will miss one to two weeks with an upper-body injury, after getting hurt in the third period of Wednesdays overtime win against the New York Islanders.

Were hoping to get him back sooner than that, obviously, general manager Paul Holmgren said. Well see how it comes over the next few days.

Van Riemsdyk, 22, was a surprise scratch from Friday afternoon's win over the the Montreal Canadiens. Holmgren said van Riemsdyks injury wasnt related to a hit he took on Wednesday, instead happened during a play in which he "went to pass the puck."

Holmgren added that the young winger didnt practice with the rest of the team on Thanksgiving and that his injury was serious enough that there was no chance of his playing against the Habs.

Van Riemsdyk played just under 18 minutes on Wednesday, but didnt play after the 58th minute of regulation and did not appear at all in OT.

In 20 games this season, van Riemsdyk has eight goals and eight assists. At this time last season, hed yet to score a goal.
Jagr, Pronger still out
Chris Pronger (virus) and Jaromir Jagr (groin) also missed Fridays win over the Canadiens, and will miss Saturdays Winter Classic preview against the New York Rangers, as well.

The Flyers are hoping both players will be able to return next Friday, when the Flyers travel to Anaheim to face the Ducks.

Its unfortunate for Jaromir and for us that he aggravated the same injury the last game, Holmgren said. So well take it a little slower this time. He did have a different treatment over the last couple days since the injury.

Were shooting for next Friday. If thats the case, great. If not, well just wait.

The same goes for Pronger, Holmgren said.

Best-case scenario would be the same, next Friday in Anaheim, he said. Chris is feeling better but hes still not feeling himself just yet.
And Lilja, too
Defenseman Andreas Lilja will be out six weeks with a high-ankle sprain that he sustained in the third period of Fridays win.

Though Holmgren declined to name a call-up to play in Liljas place, Kevin Marshall was reportedly a late scratch from Fridays Adirondack Phantoms gamea good sign that Marshall will travel to New York with the Flyers.

Marshall recently played in his first NHL game, the Flyers 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Monday night.
