Jonathan Papelbon has yet to throw a pitch for the Phils at Citizens Bank Park, but hes already endearing himself to Philly fans.

Papelbon appeared on 94WIP Thursday and compared Phillies fans to Red Sox fans:

The difference between Boston and Philadelphia, the Boston fans are a little bit more hysterical when it comes to the game of baseball, Papelbon said, via CBSPhilly.com. The Philly fans tend to know the game a little better, being in the National League, you know, the way the game is played.

Papelbon said he enjoyed playing in Boston, where someone once threw a prosthetic leg in the bullpen.

Its a religion. Its a way of life," he said. "It got my motor running every day.

After spending all seven of his major league seasons in Boston, Papelbon last November signed a four-year, 50 million deal with the Phils and admitted he felt somewhat spurned by the Red Sox.

It was a situation where the Red Sox didnt really come at me the way I was expecting them to come at me in the off-season, Papelbon said. And I told my agent that the first team that shows me interest and shows me loyalty, Im going to show that right back to them, and that was Philadelphia.
