Phillies send Brown down to Triple A

CLEARWATER, Fla.One of the pressing questions for the Phillies as they entered spring training was whether or not top prospect Dom Brown could again break into the starting lineup in the big leagues.

Could a strong spring earn Brown a chance to play every day from the jump?

The answer to that question came Friday when the Phillies announced that Brown had been optioned to Triple A Lehigh Valley.

Though he showed promise at the plate, batting 6 for 20 with two triples and a home run, Brown struggled to grasp the nuances of left field. With John Mayberry slated to spend time at first base and left field and Laynce Nix also expected to see a lot of action in left field, the Phillies felt that the best option for Brown was for him to learn how to play the position by playing every day in the minors.

Certainly, its tough for Brown to argue with that logic.

Life goes on, I'm going to go down there, play hard and that's it, he said.
