Phils hold private workout for Cespedes

The Phillies are a team known for leaving no stone unturned when it comes to scouting. With that, they held a private workout for Cuban free agent Yoenis Cespedes on Tuesday in the Dominican Republic. The workout was attended by former general manager Pat Gillick.

Cespedes is a 26-year-old outfielder who is built like Bo Jackson. Estimates for signing him have started at 30 million.

It seems very unlikely that the Phillies would spent that kind of money for a player who is unproven at the major league level, so their scouting of Cespedes is probably just a case of practicing due diligence.

Weve seen him a couple of times and were seeing him again now, GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said. I have no idea where the market is going to go. We see all the players we need to see.

Cespedes worked out in front of about 150 scouts 10 days ago. The Phils had a contingent at that workout.
