The Phillies have signed veteran righthander Joel Pineiro to a minor-league contract and invited him to big-league spring training camp, a baseball source said Sunday. The deal was first reported by ESPN.com
Pineiro, 33, is 104-93 with a 4.41 ERA in 12 big-league seasons. He was 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA in 27 games, 24 starts, with the Los Angeles Angels last season.
Pineiro is one of a number of veteran pitchers that will be in camp on non-roster deals. The others: Dave Bush, Scott Elarton, Pat Misch, David Purcey, Brian Sanches and Raul Valdes.
