Hochman apologizes for Turner remarks

Longtime Daily News sports writer Stan Hochman has issued an apology for remarks he made about Evan Turner.

On Wednesday morning, Hochman appeared on 94 WIP and said there was an explanation for Turner's poor play to start the season. Hochman said, "One of these days, the team, with Turners permission, will reveal" the nature of the undisclosed problem.

Turner and Doug Collins then issued independent denials about Hochman's report prior to Wednesday evening's game against the Celtics at the Wells Fargo Center (see story).

In an email dispatched to editors at the Daily News and subsequently obtained by CSNPhilly.com, Hochman apologized to Turner, the Sixers organization and "all concerned." The full text appears below:

"On Wednesday morning, in an appearance on WIP-radio as the Grand Imperial Poobah, I was asked if it was time to declare Evan Turner a bust," Hochman wrote.

"I have felt for some time that Turner was taking an unfair beating in the media and I hinted that there was an undisclosed explanation for his inconsistent performances.

"That was unfair to Turner and to the Sixers organization and I want to apologize to all concerned. Sixty-six games crammed into 123 days takes its toll on everyone. I will not reveal my source, nor the nature of what I was told, but it was wrong to say what I said.

"I would love to invoke the no-harm, no-foul rule."
