Sixers part ways with GM Stefanski

The new managing owner said Rod Thorn, the teams president, will be captain of the Sixers basketball ship. Doug Collins will be retained as head coach, so maybe call him first mate.

Meanwhile, Ed Stefanski has been tossed overboard.

Stefanski was relieved of his general manager job when the new ownership group held a press conference at the Palestra on Tuesday. Josh Harris, the Sixers managing owner, said there are no current plans to replace Ed.

There have been reports that the Josh Leviena former agent, front office member for the Sacramento Kings, and now one of the Sixers many new minority ownerswill take over some or all of Stefankis role and be involved in personnel decisions moving forward.

It has been widely reported that Stefanski has already talked to the Toronto Raptors about their GM position. Sources also tell CSNPhilly.com that the Portland Trailblazers are interested in Stefanski's services and an interview for a front office position could be in the near future.

Stefanski, who grew up in the area and attended Monsignor Bonner, was originally hired as Sixers president and general manager in 2007. He had his title truncated and duties downsized when Thorn was brought in as Sixers president before last season.

"It is the new ownership's day," Stefanski told CSNPhilly.com. "I wish them only the best. Having been in Josh Harris and Adam Aron's company, I know the Sixers are in capable hands."
