Sixers sign free agent big man Elson

The Sixers have signed free agent center Francisco Elson.

In recent games, the Sixers have dealt with a lack of big men because of injuries to Spencer Hawes (Achilles) and Nikola Vucevic (quad, knee).

The signing of Elson will offer the Sixers more depth up front.

We are happy to pick up Francisco Elson, a veteran big man who can help bolster our front court, Sixers President of Basketball Operations Rod Thorn said.

The 7-foot Elson has played in 467 NBA games (149 starts), averaging 3.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 15.4 minutes per game. In 2006-07, he started 41 games and played in 70 for the NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs.

This is actually Elson's second stint with the Sixers. He was a part of the 2010 traded from Milwaukee that brought in Jodie Meeks for Primoz Brezec, Royal Ivey and a second-rounder. He played in just one game for the Sixers but played in 62 for the Utah Jazz last season.

With the move, the Sixers' roster stands at 14.
