Sixers cap impressive stretch still motivated

WASHINGTON -- Seven games in nine days resulted in six wins and one loss for the Atlantic Division leading Sixers. Impressive.

Yes, the teams they beat have a total of 22 wins on the season with Indiana the lone opponent with a winning record (9-3).

Still, the Sixers average winning margin during that stretch was 23 points. In the six victories, they had five different players lead them in scoring, and they averaged just 11.5 turnovers off which opponents scored a total of 62 points (10.3 per game). Lou Williams averaged 16.6 points while Thaddeus Young averaged 12.5 points.

It was quite the six pack.

We have a lot of heart, we have a lot of fight, Jrue Holiday said. Like the Knicks game, we didnt win the game but we are just never going to give up.

We are just playing well as a group, Williams said having led his team with 24 points in a 103-90 win over the Wizards. Were playing with a lot of confidence. I think that comes with winning games. Tonight was another big one for us.

Williams is one of 15 players currently averaging double figure points playing fewer then 25 minutes a game. San Antonios Manu Ginobli is averaging 17.4 points to lead the way, but he has played in just five games. Williams is second at 16 points per contest.

Andre Iguodala saw Williams year coming when he played with the six year veteran this past summer.

He was scoring the ball at a different rate this summer, Iguodala said. He is probably one of the best scorers that I have been around, hes right there with Allen Iverson as far as just being able to score the ball. He has a knack for getting fouled and hes really worked hard on his game.

Williams prides himself on being efficient while the Sixers as a whole take tremendous satisfaction in leading the league in fewest turnovers for a second consecutive year.

Individually, Jrue Holiday has the most turnovers on the team with 32, which is expected given how much he has the ball in his hands as the teams starting point guard. Still, his 2.7 turnovers per game are 10th lowest in the NBA.

You make turnovers, you come out, Holiday said. I think I found that out last game when I had two in the first three plays so I had to come out. You cant produce if you are off the court so that is motivation enough.

It is a motivated group that gladly accepts challenges. The next challenge for the Sixers will be to take care of business on their home floor. Ten of their next 11 games are at the Wells Fargo Center. The Sixers are one of five teams still undefeated at home and the accomplishments of the past week plus two days are being enjoyed, as they should.
