Twitter exploded, both locally and nationally, upon the stunning news of Chip Kelly being named the 21st head coach in Eagles history.

Heres a sampling of some of the best tweets from players, analysts and other observers.

-An offensive tackle who committed to USC but is considering other schools.

@NFL: Heath Evans: "I am going on the record calling Chip Kelly one of the worst hires in pro football history."
-The NFLs official account quoting former fullback and current analyst Heath Evans, who appears to not be a fan of the hire.

@Jones_Drew32: Chip Kelly wasn't gonna let Monte Kiffin get away that easy lol
-Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew, pointing out that Kelly and Kiffin (the former USC defensive coordinator) will again be in the same division. Kiffin is the Cowboys new DC.

@RossTuckerNFL: Chip Kelly needs a like-minded QB. Based on last two offseasons it'd be Brett Favre.
-Former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker comparing Kellys waffling to the notorious flip-flopping of Favre.

@AaronCurry51: Chip Kelly offense with: Vick, McCoy, Desean, Maclin...the dream team is alive!!
-Former Seahawks and Raiders linebacker Aaron Curry.

@KirkMorrison: Somewhere Lane Kiffin is streaking around the Quads at USC celebrating like Will Ferrel in Old School because Chip Kelly is gone.
-NFL linebacker Kirk Morrison. Oregon beat USC in three of their last four meetings.

NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi (said earlier this month):
He is a very successful coach, he is a very smart coach, and he is a very analytical coach. He is going to take the success he had and he studies the pro game and he is going to apply to the pro game. I think his ideas of what he does at Oregon will always come into the NFL but they wont necessarily be the offense. Anyone who says well, Chip Kellys offense wont work in the NFL, they really dont know Chip Kelly as a person. Chip Kelly is very smart, he is very analytical, and he will adapt to the pro game and his talents as a leader will take over as head coach.

Ravens TE Ed Dickson, who played under Kelly at Oregon:
Chip Kelly is a mastermind.

ESPN analyst and former head coach Jon Gruden:
This guy's a stud. This guy's a stand-up guy. He's the first guy to take credit when things go wrong, and I really believe he's going to be a dominant coach for a long time.

NFL Network analyst and former Eagles offensive lineman Brian Baldinger:
Chip is an innovator. He is a disciplinarian. He's very, very tough and close to the vest. He can be a tough guy to get to know. He's got a visor and his coaching face on 24-7. But there's a lot of things about Chip that I think can flat out work in the NFL.

Former New Hampshire head coach Bill Bowles, under whom Kelly coached between 1994 and 1998:
Hes bright enough to know you have to match your offense with the talent you have. Not all coaches have that the ability to make changes or adaptations, and the foresight to analyze and evaluate the personnel you have, and create the best offense for your personnel.
