Rounds 5: Eagles draft tackle Kelly, WR McNutt

Share

The Eagles in the fifth round picked their second offensive player of the draft, tackle Dennis Kelly out of Purdue.

The 6-foot-8, 321-pound Kelly believes hell fit well in offensive line coach Howard Mudds system.

Its one thing that I thought was a strength to my game was my athleticism, he said. I move very well for how big I am. Ive grown into my body and my size. I move pretty fluidly.

Kelly gives the Eagles needed depth at tackle. Starter Jason Peters is out with a ruptured Achilles suffered earlier this off-season. The Eagles signed veteran Demetress Bell to replace him.

The Eagles had brought in Kelly to meet the coaches and take a physical.

I had someone of an inclination they might pick me, he said. I met with everyone and felt there was a good chemistry there.

The Eagles went offense again in the sixth round, drafting Iowa receiver Marvin McNutt (see bio) with the 194th overall pick.

Mudd last season as a senior tied Iowa's single-season record with 82 receptions, set a new record with 1,315 yards and caught 12 touchdowns. He leaves as the school's all-time leader in yards receiving (2,861) and second in receptions (170).
