Flyers Injury Update: White, Schenn skate, MacDonald doesn't

VOORHEES, N.J. -- Two injured Flyers skated for about 20 minutes before the rest of the team took the ice at Skate Zone Tuesday morning.

One of them, Luke Schenn, is expected to miss only a couple weeks as he works his way back from an upper-body injury sustained in Saturday’s win over the Colorado Avalanche.

The other, Ryan White, hasn’t played a single game for the Flyers this year -- but might be working his way toward that goal faster than anticipated.

Defenseman Andrew MacDonald, who has been out since Oct. 23 with a lower-body injury, did not practice, even though he had been scheduled to. Coach Craig Berube, however, said it wasn't because of any steps backward. MacDonald is about two weeks away from his anticipated return.

"We’ll see if he is (practicing) tomorrow," Berube said. "There’s no setback. We’ll see if he’s there tomorrow."

White, whom the Flyers signed in August, was injured during a workout over the summer and required surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle. At the time, general manager Ron Hextall said the 26-year-old former Montreal Canadien would miss approximately five months, which would place his expected return around February.

That White is on the ice in early November could indicate his recovery is progressing more quickly than expected. However, when he does return, he will be sent to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The 6-foot, 201-pound center signed a two-way deal with the Flyers, and could play on the team's fourth line if depth ever becomes an issue.

"He skated today, but he’s a ways off," Berube said. "He went on the ice. Ryan White, we’ll see. He’s a ways away."

Both White and Schenn skated in grey non-contact jerseys before Tuesday's practice with assistant coaches, keeping a relatively low pace and working primarily on skating drills.
