Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossmann is day to day with a lower body injury, general manager Paul Holmgren announced Wednesday afternoon.
A source told CSNPhilly.com's Tim Panaccio that the injury appeared to be to Grossmann's groin (see story). The NHL's shot block leader (68) missed the final two periods of Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
That Grossmann will likely return sooner rather than later is very good news for a Flyers defense that would miss his size and tenacity.
“He’s been playing real well for us,” coach Peter Laviolette said after Tuesday's game. “To take a guy out of the lineup puts stress on the back end. To lose someone like that is difficult.”
Others on the list
In addition to Grossmann, Holmgren also updated and upgraded the statuses of defenseman Andrej Meszaros and forward Matt Read. Both players are now day to day, as well.
