PITTSBURGH – Every time Flyers coach Peter Laviolette moves a player to the top line, things go awry because of an injury or goal drought.

Matt Read seemed to have made an impact on Claude Giroux’s line, first with Wayne Simmonds and then Jakub Voracek.

Well, Read was felled with 3:24 left in the first period on a hard, open-ice hit from Penguins forward Chris Kunitz. Read left the game and did not return.

He may have a concussion.

All general manager Paul Holmgren would say is that Read has an upper-body injury and he will be re-evaluated on Thursday. Sources indicated that re-evaluation will be to determine if there is a concussion.
