And now, a simultaneously amusing and "Holy Hell, the Eagles make up 10 percent of the list?" kind of walk down memory lane.
Kissing Suzy Kolber has put together a ranking of the "100 Most Average (Football) Players Ever
," and former Eagles wide receiver James Thrash is No. 1 on the list. But, he's not alone; at least 10 other Birds (our bad if we missed any) made the cut, including Donovan McNabb's nearly entire complement of receivers from the early stages of his career.
Click for the list of Eagles below and for a picture of two positively sweet looking gentlemen in Starter-esque jackets and big sunglasses...
67. Torrance Small
64. Ike Reese
38. Kevin Curtis
37. Jabar Gaffney
29. Carlos Emmons
15. Rodney Peete
12. Dhani Jones
9. Bubby Brister
1. James Thrash
Alright, before anyone gets too furious about the way this is constructed or begins comparing statistics, KSK describes the list as comprised "according to our complex metric of bullshit and gut feeling." So this isn't exactly scientific, nor, obviously, accurate.
Clearly, these guys are out of order and two of them -- Ike Reese and Carlos Emmons -- probably shouldn't be on this list at all, unless we're evaluating sports talk radio talents starting in the 10 o'clock hour.
Anyhow, the breakdown comes out to 5 WRs, 2 QBs and 3 LBs. Four of the five wide receivers were fixtures of the Five era, while Gaffney was only here for a training camp, albeit a training camp with McNabb at the helm.
Obviously we present this as something fun to jar some memories and not as any serious study -- plus, we're all already well aware of the Donovan-receivers debate. The point is really more to be able to type "BUBBY BRISTER!" and not have it be four in the morning.
Speaking of giggles and bygone elements of our franchise's culture, we also found this gem over on KSK (who got it from @hugesunglasses
) and present it to you now with no context whatsoever:
If you still have sunglasses like these, dig em out, and show em off. It's nice out
