NFL Schedule Released: Andy Reid Returns to Philly in Primetime on September 19

We look for a lot of the same things every year as soon as
the NFL schedule comes out. When do the Eagles play the Cowboys and Giants? How
many national TV games did the Birds get? Which away game will make for the
best road trip? (Denver is probably lovely in late September.)

How did the schedule makers screw Philly this time?

This year we had a little bonus to look forward to: when would
Andy Reid return to town? And we won’t have to wait very long.

Lincoln Financial Field will play host to Big Red and the
Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3, a Thursday night game that is one of only two
primetime matchups on the schedule for the Eagles. The Chip Kelly era will
actually begin in the first half of a Monday night double header at the
Washington Redskins.

Obviously flex scheduling could allow for more showcase
games later in the season, though expectations clearly are not that high around
the league.

Philly’s home opener versus the San Diego Chargers is
sandwiched in between for what could have the makings of a brutal start to the
season. The Birds have three tilts in 11 days to kick off the 2013 campaign, so
Chip better whip those boys into shape by then.

As for those Dallas games, the Eagles will head to Cowboys
Stadium in the season finale, so even if the Eagles are not in playoff contention
themselves, they could still have the chance to play spoiler.

We usually refrain from trying to predict the degree of
difficulty in the schedule, because who knows how good or bad these teams are
going to be in April? In fact, who knows how good or bad the Eagles will be?
