Byron Maxwell: Eagles' scheme ‘definitely fits me'

Is Byron Maxwell coming to Philly?

If he is, he's certainly not telling yet.

In an appearance on Comcast SportsNet's Quick Slants Thursday night, the soon-to-be-free agent cornerback played it mostly close to the vest, but did admit he considers himself a good fit in the Eagles' defense.

"Their stye of defense is very similar to what we play in Seattle," Maxwell said. "Lot of man-press, cover 3. They allow their corners to play and get physical. Their scheme definitely fits me."

Maxwell may be familiar with defensive coordinator Bill Davis' scheme, but he still has a bit of learning to do about the city as a whole.

"I know y'all make great cheesesteaks there," he said. "You got, what else, the City of Brotherly Love. You've got one of the best fans, from what I hear, in the NFL. I only hear good things.

"I also hear you're tough, too. The people are tough. They love their football."

Eagles fans would certainly love it if Maxwell signed in Philadelphia once free agency opens Tuesday. The Eagles have a desperate need at cornerback and Maxwell filled a major role for the Seahawks as their No. 2 corner opposite Richard Sherman.

The fact that Maxwell learned from Sherman for years only adds to his value.

"Richard Sherman, the way he sees the game and approaches the game is at a different level," Maxwell said. "He might recognize a formation from years ago.

"It's something I wanted to add to my game when I got out there."

In just a few days, Maxwell will be able to find out what the market thinks of him when he steps out on his own.
