CSN Mock Draft, Pick 11: Chargers select …

11. Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee (6-2, 216)

If the draft goes the way we have predicted thus far, there is no way the Chargers keep this pick. They have a lot of holes and would love to trade down. However, for this exercise, they will stay at 11. And I believe -- given the options -- they will roll the dice on the unproven yet athletically-enticing Cordarrelle Patterson.

San Diego has a new GM and a new head coach. Both decision-makers know this team lacks game-breaking skill players. They lack skill position players who can help Phillip Rivers regain his top QB status (whether he ever deserved that designation is a discussion for another time). Patterson is a player with the kind of upside that could help Rivers and the anemic Chargers attack.

Patterson looks the part. He's 6-2 and runs a 4.42 40. He played WR, KR and RB in college. The problem is he did so for only one year. So there are plenty of questions about him. There is also much he still needs to learn. But the Chargers once took a chance on a TE with limited football experience, and all Antonio Gates did was became one of the dominant tight ends in the game. I'm not saying Patterson will be Antonio Gates. I am saying he's worth another roll of the dice.

Coming Thursday: Geoff Mosher picks for the Miami Dolphins.
