Eagles CB Nolan Carroll says fibula surgery went well

The Eagles didn't just lose a game to the Lions on Thanksgiving. They also lost a starting cornerback for the rest of the season.

On Thursday, Nolan Carroll tweeted that his surgery to repair his fibula "went very well." Carroll's injury on Thursday was described as a broken ankle.

In Carroll's absence (he was placed on season-ending injured reserve), rookie Eric Rowe will take over starting duties opposite Byron Maxwell.

Whether Rowe plays well or not, it's possible Carroll, 28, has played his final game with the Eagles.

Carroll, who the Eagles signed before the 2014 season, is on the last year of his two-year deal and will become an unrestricted free agent after the year is over. He had a base salary of $2.9 million this season.

Carroll was taken by the Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2010 draft. He spent four seasons with Miami, starting 22 games in 2012 and 2013.
