Eagles-Cowboys bullet points: Run game important vs. Dallas

Share

Breaking down 11 key points heading into the Eagles' Week 2 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field:

• The Eagles gave DeMarco Murray $42 million over five years to run the ball. So another game like last Monday night's in Atlanta — eight carries for nine yards — just won't cut it Sunday. Chip Kelly needs to run the ball Sunday.

• Look for Sam Bradford to be much sharper overall passing against Dallas. His 21-of-25 second-half performance against the Falcons is what we saw from him in the preseason, and what Kelly expects from him on a regular basis.

• Jordan Matthews had 10 catches for 102 yards against Atlanta. He could have another big day against the Cowboys' secondary.

• Dallas enjoys playing at the Linc. They've won their last three games here and five of their last six in the Birds' nest.

• Zoned in: The Eagles scored touchdowns on three of their last four trips inside the 20 on Monday night against the Falcons.

• Murray had both a rushing and a receiving touchdown against the Falcons for just the second time in his career and became the first Eagle to do so since LeSean McCoy in October 2012, which also came against Atlanta.

• Hopefully Darren Sproles is an integral part of the offensive game plan going forward. His 126 yards from scrimmage were vital in the Birds' comeback in Atlanta, though ultimately they lost.

• Vinny Curry played just 21 of 74 defensive snaps in the opener. The Eagles need to unleash Curry on Tony Romo.

• Looking forward to seeing if the Birds can get first-round pick Nelson Agholor going. His NFL debut left a lot to be desired with just one catch for five yards.

• Just because Dez Bryant is out for this game don't overlook Cole Beasley's ability to present problems. He's a Julian Edelman/Wes Welker type — small but quick and elusive.

• Dallas will not only be without Bryant, but also Greg Hardy, Orlando Scandrick and rookie Randy Gregory. Ronald Leary may also miss the game. There's no way the Eagles can lose this game here.
