FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- When the Eagles' starting offense takes the field Friday night, Nick Foles won’t have his starting receiving tandem.
Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper are both out for the preseason showdown against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Maclin injured his hamstring Wednesday after catching a touchdown pass from Foles, and Cooper won’t return until Sunday from a foot injury that’s kept him out for more than two weeks.
Wide receivers Arrelious Benn, Jeff Maehl, Brad Smith and Ifeanyi Momah are all expected to take turns on the first team.
The Eagles are also thin at running back, with Chris Polk, Matthew Tucker and David Fluellen all sidelined. Look for rookie free agent Henry Josey to shoulder the majority of carries after LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles exit. Wide receiver/return specialist Damaris Johnson has taken some running back reps in practice this week and could also take some carries.
Also out are cornerback Nolan Carroll (hamstring), inside linebacker Jake Knott (hamstring), center Julian Vandervelde (back) and rookie cornerback Jaylen Watkins (hamstring).
Maehl and defensive tackle Bennie Logan will make their preseason debuts. Both missed Friday’s preseason opener against the Bears.
One good sign: Polk and Knott warmed up on the field hours before kickoff, running and catching passes from an assistant coach.
