Eagles Injury Update: Kendricks out, Ryans game-time call

DeMeco Ryans remains a game-time decision Sunday night against the Giants while the other half of the Eagles’ inside linebacker tandem is definitely out.

The team listed Ryans, who’s nursing a groin injury, as questionable to play in the prime-time showdown on NBC, but Mychal Kendricks will miss his fourth straight game with a calf injury.

Casey Matthews and Emmanuel Acho will continue to fill in for Kendricks on a rotating basis unless Ryans deems himself unable to play. In that case, Matthews and Acho will compose the starting inside linebacker tandem.

Ryans, who injured his groin in the fourth quarter against the Rams, was limited Friday for the second straight day, although Friday practices are usually just walkthroughs. Kendricks didn’t participate and hasn’t since injuring his calf Sept. 15 against the Colts.

Also out are running back Chris Polk (hamstring), center Jason Kelce (sports hernia) and wide receiver Brad Smith (core muscle). Kelce and Smith have undergone surgeries and will be out for several more weeks. Replacing Polk on kickoff return duty will be rookie wideout Josh Huff.

Rookie receiver Jordan Matthews missed practice Friday although not for injury reasons, according to the team’s injury report.

Ryans hasn’t missed a game since tearing his Achilles in 2010 with the Texans in the sixth game of the year and missing the last 10 games of the season.

On Thursday, Ryans participated in warmups and position drills but no other parts of practice. Afterward, he said he felt good but certain movements bothered him.

He said he’d make his decision after warming up on the field prior to kickoff Sunday night.

“We will just see how it feels,” he said. “When Sunday gets here we’ll see how it feels, man. If I can go ... if I feel like I can help my team and I'm effective, I'll be out there. If I'm not then I won't be.”
