The Eagles on Monday released cornerback Brandon Hughes off injured reserved with an injury settlement.

The move was expected when Hughes, 27, was placed on IR on Sept. 18 when the Eagles signed cornerback Roc Carmichael. Hughes injured his hamstring in the Eagles' 33-30 loss to the Chargers in Week 2.

The Eagles released him on Sept. 7 to avoid guaranteeing him his entire 2013 base salary of $540,000 and re-signed him three days later. Since Hughes has been released within a week of being placed on IR, the Eagles saved $444,705.

A fifth-round pick by the Chargers in 2009 out of Oregon State, Hughes played 31 career games in four seasons with the Eagles. He spent most of his Eagles career playing on special teams, but earlier this season was the No. 2 outside corner.
