Eagles release defensive lineman Brandon Bair

Brandon Bair, one of Chip Kelly’s prized Oregon Alumni Society, was released by the Eagles Friday afternoon.

Even Howie Roseman couldn’t get a draft pick for Bair.

Bair, strictly a 3-4 defensive tackle, was scheduled to earn $675,000 this year on the second year of a two-year deal that included a $100,000 signing bonus.

So the Eagles clear $725,000 in cap money and will carry just $50,000 in dead money by releasing Bair.

The 6-foot-7 Bair, 31, played in 21 games with two starts for the Eagles. He had 1½ sacks, 20 tackles and batted down four passes in 2014.

Bair spent time with the Chiefs in 2011, Raiders in 2012 and 2013 and Eagles in 2013 before he ever got on the field. He was two months shy of his 30th birthday when he finally made his NFL debut against the Jaguars on Sept. 7, 2014.

This past year, Bair played only 92 snaps on defense all year, half of them in an early season start against the Jets. He also started the first Washington game but got hurt and didn’t play again for two months.

He was inactive nine of the last 12 weeks last year and played just 30 snaps in the three games he was active.

In 2014, Bair played in all 16 games, and played 196 snaps – fifth-most among all the Eagles’ defensive linemen.
