Eagles sign fullback (former linebacker) Ryan Mueller

The Eagles have signed a fullback.

Well, he's a fullback now, at least.

On Friday, the team signed Ryan Mueller to a two-year contract. Mueller (6-2, 250) comes to Philadelphia as a fullback but was an outside linebacker last year for the San Diego Chargers and spent time on the team's practice squad after joining the team as an undrafted free agent.

At Kansas State, where he was a four-year letterman after joining the team as a walk-on, he was a defensive lineman. In his last two years at K-State, Mueller had 14 sacks and 25 tackles for loss. While he excelled on the defensive line in college, in high school, Mueller played linebacker, fullback, tight end and special teams.

While the Eagles didn't have a fullback on the 53-man roster last year, the position has been a staple of the Andy Reid/Doug Pederson offense.

Recently, Pederson said he thought tight end Trey Burton might have the ability to be a lead blocker, but mentioned he wouldn't know until training camp in the summer.

Now, the Eagles have a lead blocker. Even though that wasn't his position a few months ago.

Eagles cut Hawkinson
The Eagles made another minor move on Friday, cutting OT/OG Tanner Hawkinson, whom they signed last October off the 49ers' practice squad. Hawkinson was active just twice last year and never played an offensive snap.
