Donnie Jones has some competition.
The Eagles on Monday signed veteran punter Ryan Quigley to a one-year deal, presumably to compete with incumbent punter Jones, which will be an uphill battle.
Quigley, 26, went undrafted out of Boston College in 2012 and has been with the New York Jets for the last three seasons after a brief stint with the Chicago Bears. He was a restricted free agent, but the Jets chose not to tender him or re-sign him. Over his three years with the Jets has been good at times, but inconsistent. Quigley's yards-per-punt average is 45.1, with two blocked in three seasons.
Meanwhile, Jones has been very good for the Eagles.
Heck, at times last season, he was one of the team's best players. In his three seasons with the Eagles, he has an average of 45.3 and has been very good at pinning opposing teams deep. Jones, 35, is entering the final year of his deal and will make $1.75 million in 2016.
In addition to having two punters, the Eagles also have two kickers on the roster in Caleb Sturgis and Cody Parkey, who will battle for that starting spot.
