Eagles starting left tackle Jason Peters suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right leg.
The injury occurred while Peters was training in Texas on Tuesday. He will have surgery to repair the tendon on Tuesday. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Steve Raikin of the Rothman Institute.
The Eagles announced Peters' injury only hours after the team re-signed 6-foot-9 veteran tackle King Dunlap (see story). Dunlap has started seven games in his NFL career and will likely be used to replace Peters or compete with someone for the starting position. The Eagles have the 15th pick in next month's draft (here's a look at the top tackle prospects).

Peters, 30, is coming off his fifth career Pro Bowl season and was the strongest member of the Eagles' offensive line, which after a shaky start became one of the team's strengths by season's end.
The Eagles were already struggling with depth on the offensive line after cutting veteran center Jamaal Jackson and trading tackle Winston Justice in a salary dump. Justice was a second-round draft pick who didn't live up to expectations but was experienced, having made 31 career starts.
The only other backup offensive lineman on the Eagles roster are 2011 fifth-rounder Julian Vandervelde, Mike Gibson and Steve Vallos, Dallas Reynolds and Zane Taylor and D.J. Jones.
