Former Eagle Jamaal Jackson retires

It didn't take Jamaal Jackson long to make up his mind.

Just one day after a tryout with the New York Giants, the former Eagles center has decided to retire.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin confirmed to the New York Daily News that Jackson was indeed calling it quits.

"He came in and he was very nice. He just said, 'Coach, I just don't feel like my heart's in it,'" Coughlin said.

Jackson told the Newark Star Ledger on Friday that he was contemplating retirement and was "just trying to feel around and see what I got left, if anything, and just to try to run around with the kids basically."

"My thing was I always wanted to walk away from the game on my own terms and this will kind of give me an idea of where I'm at. If it works out, fine, if it doesn't, I'll have a decision to make, he said.

Jackson spent nine seasons with the Eagles dating back to 2003, and served as the team's starter from 2006 to 2009. But late in 2009, in Week 16 against the Denver Broncos, he injured his ACL, forcing him to miss the remainder season. Then, in the first game of the 2010 season against the Green Bay Packers, Jackson tore his triceps and was placed on the injured reserve.

After missing the rest of that year, Jackson returned to the Eagles in 2011, appearing in all 16 games as a backup.
