Report: Eagles have contacted LT McNeill

With Jason Peters sidelined indefinitely after rupturing his Achilles tendon, the Eagles will look to fill a giant hole left by the player many outlets ranked as the best left tackle in football in 2011.

One potential replacement is former Bills tackle Demetrius Bell, who is scheduled to meet with the Eagles this weekend (see story).

Another is Marcus McNeill, who the Eagles have reached out to according to ProFootballTalk.

McNeills agent, Alvin Keels, told PFT in an e-mail that the Eagles have shown interest in the 28-year-old former Charger, though it is too early to gauge the degree of interest.

McNeill signed a six-year, 49 million deal with the Chargers in 2010 but was released on March 13 of this year after failing a team physical. McNeill missed seven games last season with a neck injury.

One day after being released by the Chargers, McNeill visited with the Detroit Lions but didn't sign.

McNeill is listed as ProFootballTalk's top available free agent.
