Evan Mathis is coming off a strong 2013 season in which he was named an All-Pro and Pro Bowler by helping augment an offense that set records in the Eagles' division-winning season.
So, expectations for Mathis and the Eagles in Year 2 under Chip Kelly must be high.
"Light years [ahead] is the perfect description of where we are compared to last year at this time," Mathis said Friday in a one-on-one interview with Comcast SportsNet's Michael Barkann.
"This year, you can just see so much more confidence on the field. Everybody's executing, it's much more crisp, and that's what you get with a year under this system."
Keeping the focus on the field is exactly what Mathis wants at this point of the offseason. A league source told CSNPhilly.com in late March that the Eagles began shopping Mathis in February to gauge his trade value after the lineman had asked for his deal to be reworked (see story).
Did Mathis want a new contract?
"I never talked about that publicly," Mathis said to Barkann. "I don't know if I said that or not."
