Evan Mathis makes second straight Pro Bowl

Eagles left guard Evan Mathis will join left tackle Jason Peters and center Jason Kelce at this year’s Pro Bowl.

Mathis, who made his first Pro Bowl last year, is replacing Saints guard Jahri Evans, who pulled out with an injury. Mathis was originally named an alternate, and apparently he'd like to see another alternate take his place (see right).

Despite all the injuries that decimated the team’s offensive line this season, including a sprained knee that sidelined Mathis for seven games, the Eagles have three starters in the Pro Bowl for the first time in more than a decade.

Peters has been named to seven, five with the Eagles and two with the Bills, and Kelce will go for the first time.

The last time the Eagles sent three offensive linemen to the Pro Bowl was 2003, when offensive tackles Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan and guard Jermane Mayberry were all named to the exhibition game.

Mathis is now tied with Shawn Andrews for most Pro Bowl honors for an Eagles guard. He’s one Pro Bowl nod from tying former center Jim Ringo for the most by an Eagles interior offensive lineman.

Overall, the Eagles placed six in this year’s Pro Bowl, which will be played one week before the Super Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., the same venue where the Super Bowl will take place.

Other Eagles in the game are outside linebacker Connor Barwin, running back LeSean McCoy and return specialist Darren Sproles.
