Gunn: Some Eagles said ‘it's about time' Chip Kelly fired

It will be fascinating in the coming days to see and hear what trickles out of the NovaCare Complex and from current and former Eagles regarding Chip Kelly.

But many of the early reactions to the Eagles' "release" of the polarizing head coach have been negative.

In fact, several players CSN's Derrick Gunn communicated with Tuesday night said, "It's about time."

"I've been texting back and forth with players and other people," Gunn said Tuesday night on Comcast SportsNet. "Some players said, 'I'm shocked, I didn't see this coming.' Several players have said — current players — have said, 'It's about time.'

"That's all you need to know — 'It's about time.' (He) lost them."

Obviously, criticism had been levied at Kelly from some players he parted with, such as LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson and Brandon Boykin. But these type of comments from current players did not surface, at least publicly, until Kelly was sent packing.

"When I see several players say 'It's about time,'" Gunn said, "that's all I needed to know to confirm what I knew for a long time."
