The Eagles’ defense has had very few personnel changes from Year 1 to Year 2 under Chip Kelly and Billy Davis.
While safety Malcolm Jenkins was brought in to shore up the secondary, the Eagles are expected to begin the 2014 season with the same four starting linebackers as a year ago. Demeco Ryans and Mychal Kendricks will start up the middle, with Trent Cole and Connor Barwin on the outside.
Still, there has been an infusion of new blood. Rookie first-round pick Marcus Smith will be expected to contribute eventually, and free-agent signee Bryan Braman provides depth on the outside.
The biggest questions regarding the Eagles linebackers are who will eventually be cut and how comfortable the players will look in their second year playing in the 3-4.
Will the team finally give up on 2010 first-round pick Brandon Graham? Does Cole have a future in Davis’s scheme after racking up eight sacks in the final eight games of 2013 or is his time in Philadelphia coming to an end? Will the presence of five-time pro bowler Kevin Greene as a guest coach in training camp have any impact?
